It's been another crazy/busy year of creative opportunities [or 2017 Artist INC fellowship announcement]...

I'm very excited & honored to announce I was chosen for the 2017 Artist INC fellowship present by Omaha Creative Institute!!
Also huge thanks to everyone who bought artwork at my exhibit 'IN COLLECTION' (I'll be uploading photos & a video of the exhibition w/ in the next month); I sold enough art to afford the Artist INC dues & also a little left over to put towards materials. I appreciate all of the support!!

Morrissey's top 10 songs at 2 months of age [or he's a post-punk baby]...

My wife & I just celebrated (our son) Morrissey's two months birthday on Sunday & decided to compile a list of 10 songs that he's reacted to since his birth. All during Kayleigh's pregnancy she would play music for Morrissey while in utero; since his birth we've played a lot of the same songs & it's been awesome to see him react to them now. The very first song he coo'd to & would seem generally interested in was New Order's 'Ceremony' & the first song that helped calm him down/put him to sleep for the first month was The Cure's 'Lullaby'. We'll be doing this little playlists as he grows up as a fun little interactive documentation of his musical interests.

I'm Omaha Famous [or catching up while on paternity leave]...

A second set of portraits from my 'Omaha Famous' portrait series; these three are also included in the original 'I'm Omaha Famous Coloring Book' which was a huge hit again for the second year in a row at Omaha Zine Fest last weekend.

Alexander Payne (Constantine Alexander Payne)

born: February 10, 1961 in Omaha.
He is is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He's very well known for directing such movies as 'Election', 'About Schmidt', 'Sideways', & 'Nebraska'.
“When you're a houseguest and you leave, it's nice to straighten something up or send your hosts a useful gift. And when you leave the planet, it's nice to have made a positive contribution.”

born: March 14, 1979 in Hinsdale, IL. His family later moved to Omaha where he attend Millard West High School. He was scouted (by Omaha Famous director by Alexander Payne) for his first acting role in the movie ‘Election’ which is filmed at Papillion-La Vista High School, in a suburb of Omaha. He's also well known for his acting roles in 'American Pie', 'Say it Isn't So', 'Just Friends', & 'Wilfred'.
“You know, I consistently change in my own life so the roles I'm suitable for also change, and that's a really nice thing about this profession.“

Jaime King (Jaime King)

born: April 23, 1979 in Omaha. She is an American actress and model. Known for her acting roles in such movies as 'Happy Campers', 'Pear Harbor', 'Slackers', & 'Sin City'.
"I think the most important manner is just general kindness. When you go to big cities, sometimes people forget to just say, 'Good morning,' or 'How are you?'"
After only having 1/2 a dozen copies left I decided to start working on the new illustrations to create the second volume of the coloring book for next year's zine fest.

Rediscovering old art [or making something new, out of something old]...

Over the last couple months my parents had been sending me different things that they kept from my childhood, since I had a kid on the way (he was just born last week on 3/7), they wanted to reconnect me w/ my youth.

Along w/ school work, creative writing pieces, awards, & numerous fan club paraphernalia, they also included artwork from when I was up until my teenage years.

The lamp is from a drawing I did probably around 5th grade, I scanned it in & mixed it in w/ my current work styling.

Omaha Zine Fest: Year 2 [or cut/paste/photocopy]...

This coming Saturday (3/11) is the 2nd annual OMAHA ZINE FEST, & as long as my wife & I's soon to be born son doesn't decide to come early, I will be tabling for my second year. I will have four new small run zines & a few copies of the five I made for last years, along w/ stickers, buttons, & original illustrations for sale!

Last year I was asked to write a blog post for We Don't Coast's website talking about what zines/zine fests are, how I incorporate my artwork into the medium, & why I choose to create zines. You can read that article HERE.

This years' fest promises to be bigger & better, which should be awesome considering how big of a hit OZF was in it's first year! It will be taking place at The Union for Contemporary Art's new building located at 2423 North 24th Street in Omaha. This year there will be 75 tabling zinesters & different events happening through out the day, starting at 11am & going until 5pm. The event is FREE to attend & all ages/people are welcome!!

You can check out all the event info on their Facebook event page HERE.

Catching up on life [or at home with]...

Since the start of the year I've been taking a mini-hiatus from working on new artwork to focus on putting my families new home together & getting ready for our son to be born. Among my house projects I've been keeping busy painting/setting up my studio, painting the kitchen, hanging art & shelves, & helping my wife setup the nursery & playroom.

The photo is a portion of the wall in our living room w/ a few of our "coffee table" books* & a vintage ad my wife bought on our first vacation together in Charlotte, NC. The framed art is one of my photos from an older series called 'Fauxlaroids'.

*(books on the shelf are: 'Show Your Work!' by Austin Kleon | 'Eames' by Gloria Koenig & Peter Gossel | 'Dogs and Chairs Designer Pairs' by Cristina Amodeo | 'Omaha City Architecture' by Junior League of Omaha
